What I liked about "Vikings" is that it didn’t just jump into brutal and bloody fight scenes. Michael Hirst took the time to develop the characters before having them go out on violent rampages. Things developed slowly, but it still maintained a compelling story that was worth watching. The ambitious protagonist, Ragnar Lothbrok, saw his first moment of triumph once his trusted friend, Loki, built a long-voyage boat with the ability to set sail for the West and all its riches. It earned Ragnar the reputation and respect that began his rise to power throughout the season.
