In 2006, Hollywood/ film legend and Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood made two films about World War II—the Battle of Iwo Jima specifically. The first half of these films, titled Flags of Our Fathers, covers the Allied/ American perspective of the battle. It follows the six marines who raised the American flag at Iwo Jima. The film also deals with the three survivors who returned stateside in the aftermath and how they struggled to help with the war effort while coming to terms with their fallen brothers-in-arms. Eastwood also scored the music himself for the film.
