This franchise started in the 1960s and has lived to survive two reboots. After presenting one of the original twist endings in 1968, four sequels and two television spin-offs continued the series live well into the 1970s. Tim Burton’s 2001 remake saw critics and fans alike turning away as it mainly focused on aesthetics and not story. However, it seems like audiences still can’t get enough of an ape-dominated Earth as the resurgence in 2011 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes met box office results greater than anticipated, and the 2014 sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, was widely-regarded by critics and earned a third film for the franchise’s soft reboot. The recent resurgence also has the rare ability of outshining the original films as the franchise’s narrative has improved since the 1970s with the rival factions of apes and humans coming to the forefront.
