Penny Marshall’s baseball dramedy about the first professional female baseball league is a great example of a good script made great by an outstanding cast. Tom Hanks (a year before he started winning two Oscars in a row) stars as the alcoholic manager chosen to lead the team. Geena Davis stars as the catcher poised to take the league by storm if her rivalry with her sister doesn’t get in the way. The film also contains the most-quoted line from a baseball movie (there’s no crying in baseball!).
