Immersion anticipates The Amazing Spider-Man 2

1 of 11

Fans of Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man have noticed the particular outfit worn by Peter Parker’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone—Superbad, Gangster Squad) in the trailers for the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.  In fact, one could argue that Emma Stone’s star shines much brighter than that of her costar/paramour Andrew Garfield. Although comic book super heroes and villains are primarily male and primarily marketed toward males, female characters maintain a necessary and integral role in comic books and the culture surrounding them.  Peter Parker is a character surrounded by women following the death of his Uncle Ben and the fall of his best friend Harry Osborn. Aunt May, Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Felicia Hardy are perhaps the most important people in his life.  As Black Widow’s (Scarlett Johansson) popularity appears to rise following Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it’s only a matter of time before we’re watching a lady-led comic venture. Actress Kate Mara has recently been cast as Sue Storm/ The Invisible Woman for 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot. It’s already known that Warner Bros./ DC are currently developing a Wonder Woman solo film starring Gal Gadot (Fast and Furious 6) following the character’s debut in 2016’s Man of Steel sequel featuring Batman. Expect to see a lot more prominent female super heroes. Honorable mention: Halle Berry (X2—2003), Amy Adams (Man of Steel—2012), Gwyneth Paltrow (Iron Man—2008)
