Paul Thomas Anderson generally waits a long time between projects, but not since 1999’s Magnolia has he made a film so closely after making another. After collaboratingon The Master in 2012, Anderson recruited star Joaquin Phoenix to play the lead in his next film, Inherent Vice, based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel of the same title. Phoenix plays a drug-addicted detective in 1970s Los Angeles investigating the disappearance of an ex-girlfriend. PTA assembles yet another knock-out ensemble cast with Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Martin Short, Eric Roberts, and Maya Rudolph. Anderson also lined up Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood to write the score for their third collaboration.
