Legendary director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) submits the second Old Testament epic of 2014 following Aronofsky’s Noah, and it looks to be the better film with more of an emphasis on narrative and performance than special effects and changing the story. Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises, Out of the Furnace) plays the role of Moses, charged with a message from God for the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton- Warrior, The Great Gatsby) to free the slaves. Ironically, Bale passed on Noah to make Exodus: Gods and Kings. Scott’s cast looks impressive beyond its protagonist and antagonist with Sir Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, Aaron Paul, John Turturro, Ben Mendelsohn, and Indira Varma. One can’t help but wonder how closely the film will resemble Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments.
