This is the End: $126 million worldwide on $32 million budget

The World’s End: $46 million worldwide on $20 million budget

Both films were a critical success. This is the End had a higher box office draw mostly due to its wider release and circus of self-depreciating celebrity cameos at $101 million domestically. The World’s End managed to turn a small profit and was a hit in its homeland of the United Kingdom ($13.35 million). Both films dealt with the apocalypse happening to a group of friends. Both pictures were made on a minute budget based on an idea original to the filmmakers themselves.  American audiences flocked to the more familiar cast and comedy style in This is the End enough to warrant a rumored sequel based on their success of making, of all movies, This is the End. The World’s End, however, put an end to Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy. Whether or not it was a success, The World’s End had no sequel in mind.
