Dir. James Wan
The Conjuring made a lot of money in 2013, a year that saw many horror movies rake in the dough. Horror has a low cost and a big audience, so it’s no surprise that the high-grossing Conjuring gets a sequel. The 2013 original followed a “true story” from the files of world-travelled demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren and the 2016 sequel looks to do the same in what appears to be the shape of an R-rated horror franchise with a lot more brainpower required than Paranormal Activity or Saw franchises. The Conjuring 2 takes place in Enfield, England, during the late-1970s and covers a world-famous poltergeist investigation. Director James Wan turned down “life-changing” money to direct Furious 8 in order to helm Conjuring 2.
