Here’s another film that could easily land in the #1 spot for our list of 2016 movies, but the release of this year’s Star Wars film may soften the anticipation for next year’s entry. However, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will stand as a SW movie all its own. Filmmaker Gareth Edwards’ (Godzilla, Monsters) newest film will take place between the prequel trilogy and the original, following a small, brave band of spies from the Rebel Alliance as they steal the plans for the first DEATH STAR. The main cast seemingly doesn’t carry a single character with use or knowledge of the Force—being a squad of spies, leaving Darth Vader to be the big man on campus in terms of which established characters may appear. A film set in established lore may be just the ticket for a new generation of SW fans, so to speak.
